Verbs are action words. The three main verb tenses are past, present, and future. You can place endings on verbs to show when an action happened. If an action happened in the past, you can often add "ed" to the end of the verb. If it happens in the present (now), you can often add "ing." If the verb ends in "e" you often drop the "e" and add the "ed" or "ing." For future tense, we often use words like "will" or "shall" in front of the verb. Always look at important words like "yesterday," "today," "tomorrow," and other "time" words to find out which tense is used.
